John Gonnella

John Gonnella's rich and luscious oils evoke a sense of the familiar. His large canvases seamlessly integrate the look of vintage advertising art with a contemporary vision through the use of bold colors and slick strokes. For this series, Gonnella chooses iconic imagery used in advertising dating back to the 1930s.

The body of the work tends to skew more female in viewing that sense of maternal and familial contentment. Gonnella's professional experience in the advertising industry as an art and creative director along with his abstract personality, have given way to create a juxtaposition of old, comfortable, conforming meets bold, illusive and the unspoken as witnessed in the “Little Dominatrix”.

John Gonnella is a working artist living and working in the South End of Boston. His studio is located at 524 Harrison Ave and can be reached at 617.470.0751.

John Gonnella comes from Nantucket, Mass and is a graduate of the New England School of Art and Design and continuing education at Mass College of Art.
